Tutorial Recorder only records part of screen

Post by D.T. Nethery »

In TVPaint 11.0.1 the Tutorial Recorder will not record my entire screen, but only the lower left corner of the screen.

I only just discovered this because I don't usually use the Tutorial Recorder (I use a screen capture app called iShowU to record tutorials with sound) but today I decided to do a quick screen capture using TVPaint's Tutorial Recorder. When I clicked on Generate Tutorial I was very surprised to see that only a portion of my screen had been captured.

In iShowU the user can set the recording area (either the entire screen or a portion of the screen) but with the Tutorial Recorder I don't see any way to set the area being recorded . For some reason on my computer TVPaint is only recording the lower left corner of the screen .

This screen shot shows what was captured by the Tutorial Recorder after I click on Generate Tutorial.

I'm on Mac OS 10.9.4 , Macbook Pro 2.3 GHZ Intel Core i7 , 16 GB memory

I also noticed this since I got a new computer with a retina screen. It worked fine on my old computer so I assume it has something to do with the high resolution.
I am using TVPaint in low resolution mode by the way.

Yes, that was my first thought (re: the Macbook's retina screen resolution) . I changed TVPaint 11.0.1 to open in Low-Resolution mode and I tried changing the Macbook's display resolution to different resolutions , but each time I got the same results , where the Tutorial Recorder only records the lower left corner of my screen .

Thank you for confirming the bug , so now I know it's not just my computer.

We'll run some tests on Monday :)

@David : Does this bug happens with both 32-bits and 64-bits versions or only one of them ?

I'm having this problem for a very long time. But since I'm the only one with a retina screen, we could not confirm it was the core of problem.

Thanks for reporting !

I had only been using the 64-bits version of TVPaint 11.0.1 , but this morning I checked the 32-bits version and discovered that the Tutorial Recorder does not work at all in 32-bits version.

In the 32-bits version I click on "Record Tutorial" , then proceed to record what I'm doing on screen , but then when I click "Generate Tutorial" nothing happens.

I am checking back on this issue to see if this is planned to be fixed soon ?

To be fixed yes. Soon... not really...

The trouble only exist on Mac with Retina screen and, after all, you can use Quicktime to record your screen. So, unfortunately, it is not a priority.

EDIT : fixed on v11.0.6, see changelog : https://forum.tvpaint.com/viewtopic.php ... 450#p98450

I'll put this here. My OSX version of the december 22 update keeps crashing when I try and record a tutorial. Is this just me?

It does not crash for me on MacOS 12.5.2 Monterey when using the drawing recorder. (I'm using the Dec. 22,2022 update of 11.7.1)

I suggest you create a new topic to report the issue because these old topics tend to not get much attention ,especially if it's a previously resolved issued and
has a green checkmark (meaning the issue is marked as fixed)

Hello,

I can't reproduce your issue either on macOS Ventura (13.0). Which version of macOS are you using TVPaint with?
