Purchasing Advice - which to buy?

Post by Anim8tor Cathy »

Hi Gang-

I am now seriously considering purchasing TVPaint. I've read the comparison features list they have here - but I know so little about this software it is impossible for me to decide. (I'm an Adobe girl) I know that many of you are seasoned veterans here so I will put the question to you. As someone just learning animation, would you suggest I buy the standard TVPaint or the TVPaint Pro software? Does the Pro version offer something I "must have" in order to produce quality animation? Or is the standard version good enough?

I appreciate you folks helping me with this!

I'd say it depends more on your long term plans. If you are hell bent on sticking to animation, get the top of the line -- if you want to just wet your toe to see if you will like animating at all, go lower.

Someone from TVP should confirm this, but it might/should also be possible to upgrade from TVP animtion to Pro later?

Hi Cathy,

I confirm : You can at first purchase TVP Animation which is half cheaper than the Pro version and upgrade later if you need more features. :D

Feel free to contact me via PM for more details.

Whoa! A little pricey. I went to the American store site - the basic package is 550 Euros - that exchanges to $851.12 USD ... I may have to delay this decision for a bit.

Hi Cathy,

You are wrong :
The basic package is 475,00 € if you are living in the US. (something around 730,00 USD today, damn the dollar is very weak those days ...)

Hi Fabrice-

Perhaps the website I went to has a mark-up on the price? They list it at 550. http://www.grupocvc.com/ I got the link from your store page.

Thanks,
Cathy

Oh, I see : you are from Mexico so you went on our reseller webpage !
In Mexico, local taxes (IVA + custom taxes if I remember well) have to be added to the full commercial prices. It explains the 550,00 €

Those who lives in the US can purchase at 475,00 € (or less if you already have Mirage at home)
Anyway, I suggest to continue this discussion by email. :)

NO! NO! NO! This is too funny!

I am not from Mexico!

I live in Redwood City, California, USA. Your store website directed me to a store website in Mexico when I chose "America" from the drop down menu.

Fabrice - All I want to do is buy a copy of TVPaint Standard - can you tell me what I need to do to accomplish this? I will be forever in your debt!
I need to buy the full version - I have nothing to upgrade from.

Thanks so much!

This is indeed confusing on the present TVP webstore . The only reseller on the American continent is presently the reseller in Mexico, BUT the TVP webstore is hooked up to PayPal , so anyone in the U.S. with a PayPal account and a North American bank account or credit card can order TVP from the webstore. It takes about 3 days for the dongle and the CD to arrive in the U.S. from France.

Hopefully the U.S. resellers will be back on board soon. I'm hoping that Journey Edand others who used to sell Mirage will be selling TVP soon.
(the school I teach at Academy of Art University and other schools like Cal State Fullerton and California College of the Arts are using TVP , so it will be a convenience to have a North American reseller.

In the meantime use the webstore : TVP Webstore for U.S. Orders
