Coloring "rough" drawings-Open lines all over

Hello.

1st. I´m not sure where to put/ask this question!?

Does anybody have a reference or a guide for coloring "first roughs" of animation drawings, a fast and furious way?

Besides the "usual" way to color drawings/Frames with closed neat cleanup line I was wondering if there is a smooth and sufficient way to go thru a bunch a "roughs" with open gabs and scribbles all over?

TVP's fill tool and CTG layers can help you only so far that they can close smaller gaps. Rough drawings or any rough line animation style needs to be colorized by hand. Some options:
- If it's only temporary I'll use a really large and fluffy brush. Good enough to block out BG elements, fast in applying. (See example: https://vimeo.com/521560283)
- Paint it by hand with a middle to large brush with an irrgular and soft outline which mimics the lines. (Remember "Yellow Submarine", the Lucy in the Sky sequene: https://vimeo.com/241065061)
- The freehand shape tool with an edge set to your personal level of fuzzyness is quite fast, this I use most.
Additional tip: in a first pass I'll color everything in white, then preserve alpha on this layer and color details.

i always teach this somewhat counterintuitive inverse way...
its a quick and dirty way to color your anim in a single color as slowtiger tipped above.:

- Create a layer under your rough anim
- Fill the first instance completely (Using filled rectangle for instance)
- Stretch instance to length of the above animation
- Select fill tool, set source to "above" and put in a high enough gapclosure value.
- Erase with the filltool on the colorlayer (rightmouse button) in a corner of the project (a corner where your animation will not come)
- Undo
- Select all frames and press enter.

Done.

Oh, that's a good trick, it avoids most of the unfilled sharp corners you get when using the fill tool with a larger gap closing value from inside.
In the end you will end up using a combination of everything anyway!

I usually also make a layer under the "ruff" drawing layer and fill out the character with white.

Then a layer inbetween the white and line. And start to color in all the "sections".. Holy crap what a huge load of work. But thats the way it has been done so far `cause I rearly work with "Clean" drawings.

How do you go about this in TVP 10.5.7?

I know how in Photoshop but so not in TVP.
Do you have a reference for this method?

This is how I go about it usually.

This is done in PS.

But The same method used in TVP since everything is done in TVP now.
I want to keep as much in TVP as possible.

The "white" is kind of ok 2 do. But it becomes a drag "coloring" all the segments.

good news...

those are perfectly neat lines!
With this line quality, using the method i described, coloring the whole animation white can be done in mere seconds.
Not exaggerating!

Then use alpha lock on he white layer and color there.
Or... if you want to keep the white, activate stencil mask on the white layer and color on a separate layer above it.

and i just remembered another great coloring tip...(TVPaint has so many functionalities if i don't use them regularly i tend to forget them!)

its called Autopickcolor and it will help you further speed up the coloring process!
