Some software has the option to dim all the layers besides the one you are currently working on.
Does TVpaint has something like that?

Thanks,
Yes, I use the solo-layer option ( but have another shortcut-key) but I was more thinking pf an option where the current layer stays 100 and all the others will show 50%.
I guess that´s not possible.

it actually is possible.
its called layer attenuation
but you can only activate it when display current layer is on. the pull down menu for this can be found under the eye symbol next to the lock symbol
its under the highlighted button

(when its activated it also becomes a lock icon which i find really confusing)

Wow! That is great. Thanks Peter!
Just what I was looking for. And you can set the transparency value too.

I think it's way easier to use the Layer Attenuation straight from the Display Settings panel (top menu: Windows>Show>Display Settings) :)
