Line Smoothing - Freehand Selection Tool Bug on 4K monitors?

The Freehand Selection Tools doesn't work properly when the Line Smoothing options are set to the following settings:

Image

The selection line (marching ants) will initiate but won't follow the stylus past a very short line. Sometimes it does follow but there's an extremely long delay and pretty much renders it unusable. I tested with a mouse and the delay is not as severe but still quite noticeable. Seems like a bug to me. Can this be fixed?

EDIT: The issue occurs on a 4k pen display. When this monitor is set to a lower resolution, like 1920x1080, everything works fine.

Hi, could you please show us in a screen recording ?

Before I record a video, I should note that I just did a test - changing the screen resolution. The native resolution of my tablet is 3840x2160 (4k). When I dropped the res down to 1980x1080, the bug did NOT occur. So it appears its related to that. But working at 1980x1080 on a 4K monitor is not ideal for me. I'll upload a recording shortly.

Hopefully this gif is sufficient to demonstrate what's going on...
The first part is when Real Time is unchecked and it works fine, I'm able to make a circular selection. Then Real Time is checked and I am making the same circular motion but only a very small line is made.

Again, the issue occurs on a 4k display set at native resolution.
Everything works fine except with those specific settings listed in the original post. As stated in the post above, it works as expected when the resolution is 1920x1080. So I suppose this could possibly be a processing power issue on my end? My computer is no powerhouse rig but maybe what I have just can't candle whatever processing is needed to make the line smoothing(with those specefic parameters) smooth at 4k res.

Do you need Line Smoothing enabled when using the Selection Tool ? If not, I wonder if the developers could add a function where Line Smoothing is automatically disabled when switching from a Drawing Tool to a Selection Tool ? Photoshop has this functionality. When Line Smoothing is enabled in Photoshop it only applies to using a brush or pencil tool , but the Line Smoothing is automatically turned off when you switch to using an Eraser or a Selection Tool, then smoothing is back on when you switch back to using a brush or pencil tool again. I'm reminded that a couple of years ago I had added a request in the Feature and Improvement Requests sub-forum to have Line Smoothing automatically disabled when switching from a Drawing tool to an Eraser. I still think that would be a desirable behavior. I wonder about the same when switching from a Drawing tool to Selection tool ? Would it make sense to have the Line Smoothing automatically disabled ? (or do you need Smoothing on when using the Selection tool ?)

+1

I've never had much of a need for Line Smoothing when using the Selection Tool so this would be a much welcomed feature for me. Thanks for the suggestion, David! I'll make a post in the Feature and Improvement Requests sub-form, depending on how the TVP team responds to this issue.

My current workaround is having Toggle Line Smoothing assigned to a shortcut and actioning that as needed.
