Re: pencil / charcoal

Here's some of my pencils, try them and analyse. Most are made from several bitmaps. They fit my drawing habits: very light pressure, but getting real fat fast. I mostly use the "noisy hard" paper, 100% size, 50% hardness.

Re: pencil / charcoal

I have tried lots of brushes over the years, but none was perfect. A good result is a combination of the right brush and the right paper. I recommend to do your own style on paper, then analyse it and try to build something close in TVP. I rarely use any brushes from elsewhere, my favourite ones are...

Re: Degrading of line quality with transform tool

If I know I need to turn an element more than once (over several frames) I make it a brush - switch on best quality - then turn it before stamping. I also often adjust elements back and forth and so on, then convert them to blue and stamp the final position, then erase the blue.

Bokeh

You all know this effect in photography, when parts out of focus show this very distinctive texture which is quite different from a simple blur. I struggled a long time to get a similar effect in digital painting, to get the right kind of background for a close-up, but only this week I dreamt a solu...

Re: camera moves and import high rez BG's

Firstly, I use a simple 1:2 or 1:3 or 1:4 size relation. I try to seperate them at regions where it doesn't need to be exact, and use a very fuzzy, hand-painted edge. Then I align them by eye. Or, if the zoomed-in part is enclosed by a line, this line will be its border.

Re: camera moves and import high rez BG's

If I combine pan and zoom in I often paint just the zoomed part in high resolution and keep the rest in low res. This means I have 2 BGs which move together.

Re: Eraser power baed on alpha of the lines being erased

I don't know how thick or black your lines are but you should try the "erode" effect on this one first.

Re: How often do you update your computer equipment and internal hard drives?

Yes, my oldest machine can technically connect to internet, but the browser versions on it which can't be updated now can only load but the smallest and most basic websites. Everything else is so clogged with Javascript, framework bullshit, ads, and an avalanche of trackers, that every connection wi...

Re: What drawing device do you use with TVPaint?

I animate almost exclusively with Cintiq, but create textures and brushes and stuff on paper to import to TVP.

Re: Music Video

Not necessary to open another topic, but I made another music video for someone else (they're still not sure how to name the project ...): https://vimeo.com/769549705/7badf15ca7 769549705 As you see it's very simple, which was the idea behind it: get it done fast (I did it in 4 days) so it can be lo...

Re: Questions about TVPaint 11.5.3

Be aware that FinalCut defines 2K as 2048 x 1024, but DCP flat is 1998 x 1080 and DCP full is 2048 x 1080. Nice mess, isn't it? No cinema or festival will care. Especially festivals are used to all kinds of formats screened one after another. Also the DCP format will accept any of these dimensions. ...

Is that really animated with 3D characters? I wouldn't have guessed, it looks like genuine 2D for me. (And I think it's beautiful.)

Re: Improve Clip Naming Convention when Splitting Clips

Oh, this is a tricky one, because each and every user prefers their very own naming system, and because some people (like me) will change a lot of stuff in the middle of the process, especially while storyboarding, so it's always hard to maintain a correct sequence of artwork as well as some consist...
