probably a bug (?),
as work-around, use the spline tool instead,
- one clic for the start-point,
- a second clic for the end-point,
- hit [Enter], here's the straight line with your "fade" size profile.

... that said, I must admit it doesn't respect the connection profile very accurately.

here's a sample of several strokes drawn all with the same profile,
we can see some unexpected "variation" on the profile repartition along the stroke.

I experience the same.

the spline tools works however.
