input+Shift locking movement into 45 Degree increments

Post by Peter Wassink »

When you hold shift, TVPaint locks/snaps all drawing movements (or other pen input tools) along straight lines at these 4 angles:
0° /180°
45° /225°
90° /270°
135° /315°

I want SHIFT to only snap in the two 90° angles, because of these three reasons:

1) Too often i get snapped into a 45° angle when i'm trying to get snapped into a 90° angle
the 45 degree steps makes it very hard to do a simple horizontal or vertical shift, especially when zoomed out from a high resolution project

2) 45° are very seldom used, 90°/180° much more often.

3) the new guidelines panel is now a very good place to get a 45°(if for some reason you do happen to need this.)

no one else ever experienced trying to pan something vertically and then seeing your art veer off in a 45 degree angle?

I never use the pan function that way. I use it to just pick up a drawing and shove it somewhere else.

No, but I tried panning around something while pressing shift and you're right I guess, the 45° are really annoying.

and when making horizontal and vertical lines with the SHIFT. I would prefer I could keep SHIFT prssed down wothoput releasing it and still makes differnt vertical and horizontal lines. Now I have to re4lease and press shift to make a differnt vertical or horizontal line.

I guess if you press shift and move left or right you're moving your graphic in the horizontal axis. But if you move your cursor down or up over a specific value you get the vertical axis.

ah, but then i'd want to be able to have control over this value because i like it huge.

The nice thing (for me ) is you can start a horizontal movement then (althewhile pressing SHIFT) just let your cursor drop way out of the way so no cursor is in view
and only judge the horizontal placement in the knowledge that the vertical position is safe.

any team reaction on this?

Right now this 45 degrees sliding is making my life hell  (figuratively spoken off course  )
it seems that on my cintiq tvpaint always prefers going 45 degrees over going straight, its 'just very annoying.

i'm bumping this because:
- it still happens to me a lot on my cintiq
- i notice students wrestling with it.
- there was no "to do list reaction" yet...

this is an annoying function that needs to go!

I missed this post when you first made it , but noticed the bump up. I agree . This is an annoying function and would be
nice to fix it as you have proposed.
