Zagreb accommodation

Post by schwarzgrau »

Me and my friends usually visited Annecy the last few years, but this year we would like to go to the animafest in Zagreb. In Annecy we rented a cabin on the campsite, but we have no idea where to go in Zagreb. Maybe someone knows something like a cheap apartment for 6-8 people.

There are one or two Croatians who are active on these forums and should respond soon. I just want to say that I consider Zagreb a much better festival than Annecy (actually the best of all the big ones) mainly for the enthusiastic local audiences and press who have a cultivated taste for intelligent films and the festival organizers treat them accordingly. At least that's the way I remember Zagreb from past years -- things do change though (except for crowded Annecy, which gets worse by the year and bloated way beyond its capacity being clearly submissive to the lowest common denominator.) Please let us know something about your experiences so that those of us who don't get around so much anymore  can stay informed.

Yea, our main reason to try Zagreb is the size. Another reason is that friends of mine, which films were shown there wasn't happy how they got treated. The jury decisions, which are never matches our favourites, the notorious bored audience etc.
But mainly really subjective things and I guess we will visit Annecy again, but we heard good things about Zagreb and wanted to try something else.
I'll post our impressions here when we're back.

From my experience renting the apartment is far more expensive then taking the place in a hostel, I know one which is not that expensive and it is not far from all the venues. Zagreb is smaller festival, but much bigger city then Annecy, and you don't want to end up searching for Taxi or something, here http://www.hosteldayandnight.com/home/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I have put my friends two years ago there, and they were very happy.

BTW. I prefer Zagreb over Annecy mainly because of prices of accommodation, food and beverages, but I don't mind Annecy crowd, we are living as animators in very isolated environment anyway, so little crowd for a week is much preferable. (until I grow old :) ) Anyway, see you in Zagreb, search for me. Best!

What an awful video! BTW, it is not permitted to carry your gun into many stores, old people are not permitted to ride on escalators, and streetcars are free...

Thank you for the tip skomdra, but we already got an accommodation in Zagreb. Slowtiger connected me with Nancy Phelps and she asked some people for us. They told her I should ask Vjera from the festival office. This was a great tip, since the festival got a partner hostel ( chillout-hostel-zagreb.com ), which provides favourable conditions for festival visitors (11 Euro per night, including breakfast).

That's some really bad news for our shotgun trip to the Cibona Tower with our grand-parents, but great news for our way from the hostel to the cinema ;)

hehe yea, the video is really awful, even if it's the first hostel video I ever saw using a song from the presets.

What impresses me now is how long that tram in the picture is. What an original concept: when a route is typically overcrowded with passengers, add more cars. Brilliant!

@schwarzgrau, Are you serious, using the tram for that distance? This is all inside of 15 mins walk, use your opportunity to exercise your ass muscles after long siting in front of TVP ;)
