Hi Ten-Zero!

Thank you for the translation pages!
In your opinion there is some other interesting book that can be good for me? I like action movements of characters, so, can you suggest to me some other japanese book for cartoons?

Ps: about Grendizer cartoon, it was acquired for the french tv but the 1° to get big succes was the italian tv, after this big success the french tv changed is mind showing the same cartoon, So, Grendizer is most popular in Italy, after in France

I had to look this Grendizer up and can't keep my mouth shut. This is just awful commercial crap in the worst way! Kitsch is too mild an expression. I don't understand much of the world the way I once used to. Italy for centuries has been the world's leader in fine arts and exquisite design. How can anyone born in such a cultivated land sink into the pits of this tasteless, crass junk and be proud that his country holds the title of being its number one fan?

Grendizer/Goldorak was not smooth motion artistic full animation, I agree.

However their original story (not meaning edited -collage- edition for export) theme is common to "Pták Ohnivák a liška Ryška" about the spaceman who lost his star, a psychological conflict, an old friend of betrayal and stand up again for save his new home (the Earth) from destructive invade; not for revenge.

But wouldn't you prefer a true to life psychological drama? Wouldn't you prefer the youth of your country to be raised with down to earth ideals, but in a way that evokes thoughtful moments of quietude and self examination? If it must be fantasy among the stars, how much deeper and more noble in values is Saint Exupery's evergreen, The Little Prince, over Goldorak! Must simple truisms such as the power of Good over Evil (or is it the other way around? Who knows anymore?) be shovel fed and wrapped in easy to digest plastic imagery?

The Little Prince was the first book in my life that I read all by myself (and I read it the year it first came out). I couldn't understand at least half of it, or maybe even most of it, but it made an everlasting impression on me and became the paradigm of what books should be like for the rest of my life; endlessly interesting yet not always easy to understand because they are meant to make me think ever more deeply and arouse my curiosity, which leads to a promise that one day I will have a better understanding of the world.

What having read the Little Prince at such a tender age led to was, that I to this day get bored with books with oversimplified content. Of course I feel the same way about films. I will any day give precedence to Eric Rohmer over Steven Spielberg, and for that I am grateful to my guardians who gave me The Little Prince. Will any Japanese or Italian, or French kid be able to feel that way about Goldorak when they become adults? How many of today's French kids have read The Little Prince or how many French adults have seen more than one Eric Rohmer film?

As professional animators (or future ones) shouldn't we assume the responsibility to help children and adults alike become more intellectually curios people, thus naturally assuming the difference of the power of good over evil without ever being explicitly browbeaten by a simplistic bon motto?

Paul Fierling,
well now i try to do an explanation why i did a Grendizer short movie.
When i was a lil child between 70's 'n 80's the italian tv did to put Grendizer for children. I was almost 5 years old so you can think what's the distance between it 'n pinocchio. But i don't talk about the story, i talk about plastic poses, colors e moods!
There is just no comparison. Why there is no comparison? Have you never seen Pinocchio tossing electronic boomerang that lights up in the dark? Or when the multi-colored heavens seem to crush the-colored earth? Have you never seen some vinile record about grendizer with images that let you dream about the suit of the hero? And i could go on but i stop me now. This is the mood that i received seeing colors of this anime.
The kind of story about war was not absorbed by me as other children, i dunno exactely why but it happen in this why in my childood. The war was just a way (in my mind) to shows the "steel"and its shimmering sparkling when under the light, that almost all about it. The voice of the actor for Duke Fleed was a plus that made a great hero yes but now you know why i'm appreciated the grendizer.
I agree when u say that i was born in a country with art in his blood 'n i don't despise it but that cartoon was a bit of my childood and as you know for sure the eyes of a child are very different from reasoning of an adult, now you mean what i say??

I afreid of he think about Japanese Anime is decadence in art or civilize aggression weapon.
I red "Le petit Prince (the little Prince)" complete translation in my native tungue language about 3 years as same as watch TV anime, and I knew yet "Anime is Anime, the Classics is a Classic".

We learned written in obsolete Japanese language about 1500 years ago during 3-18 years as French and Italian kids learn lingua latina and Villon, Baudelaire/Dante and Publius Ovidius Naso's poem (in case of Czech, Karel Hlaváček) from grade school.

I had read "Слово о пълку Игоревѣ, Игоря сыня Святъславля внука Ольгова" when I bought Classical CD of Alexander Borodin "Половецкая пляска с хором (Polovtsian Dances)" at juniour high school student ;
Image
as same as a someone of western people may red "The tale of the Heike" at same time in world history class.
Spoiler : Dailymotion and Youtube movies :
(about 400 years ago old Japanese and greeting Français at once)

However If you start counting them one by one, there will be no end to it.

Why are you believe in decadence about for ?
Why are you believe in the young age of French, Italian and Japanese kids only enjoy Anime without the Classics each other ?
It is too conclude minds from observation of the surface not only generation gap.

I don't know what age is for Ten-Zero e Paul Fierling but i think Mr Fierling has good consideration about art-works but in my opinion commercial works also has something to share sometime.
The difference is made from different cultures in my opinion. Obliviously Japenese people has great training school that includes the western culture also.
I think that Great mazinger, goldorak ecc they are violent cartoons and i can confirm this opinion now at my age and not when i was 4 or 8 years old, mainly the reason can it be found in what my general culture was in my childood.
I found good cartoons when i was child as Duffy Duck, Speedy Gonzales, the Pink Panter, Barba papà 'n more. My though is that they are good products but my mind was captured from Goldorak.
And now, just now i can say that i don't like the war story inside of his story, i was captured from it for many reasons and in past post i added just some reason.
For sure at 1000% i can say since i was lil child 'till now i don't like walt disney products but i appreciated the work of those products.
