Tvpaint 11.0.10 on Linux

Post by deruji »

Does any other Linux user in Manjaro have a problem with TVpaint 11.0.10 not recognising the USB dongle?
Did anything specific change inbetween?
I can use TVpaint 11.0.9 without problems on Manjaro Linux with XFCE.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled both versions several times with the same result. I've also tried just extracting the install files manually without success.
TVpaint 11.0.9 works with the latest sentinel driver (7.5.6) from 2017. Tvpaint 11.0.10 does not start with any version that I tried (7.5.1, 7.5.4, 7.5.6).

Sentinel driver used is Sentinel USB Daemon 7.5.6

Edit: Sentinel driver info.

Hello deruji,

I don't think anyone on the team uses Manjaro.
Can you try this version of the Linux drivers: https://owncloud.tvpaint.com/index.php/ ... lEkw92i6dm ?

Best,

Best,
Thank you for the suggestion, but it looks like the included driver is the same as I already use (sntl-sud_7.5.6-0_i386).
Are we supposed to use the server protection instead? I do not currently know how to set that up.

You are supposed to use the driver protection.
I don't know why this doesn't work, we didn't change anything with TVPaint 11.0.10 regarding the dongles.
I'm going to download Manjaro and try it on a VM. I'll come back to you soon :)

Okay, so I didn't know that Manjaro was an ArchLinux distribution, which is quite problematic, as we support Debian and RedHat (Fedora, centOS...) distributions, and also because I don't know how to install packages on it (.deb and .rpm packages are not recognized on it...).
Which tool did you use to install the package?
Thank you for the suggestion, but it looks like the included driver is the same as I already use (sntl-sud_7.5.6-0_i386).
I've just remembered that we did some modifications on our side on the drivers I sent you, because we found some issues where it was not correctly installed, and Safenet was slow to do it / didn't want to do it.
Can you try to install them anyway?

I'll try it again

I originally used debtap to convert the 11.0.9 deb package, and the sentinel drivers I had to manually install and make a service to run it.

I just rechecked each version of the drivers (64bit), they're all the same as the ones I already have. The newest one being version 7.5.6 from 2017.
I can run 11.0.9 with all of them, but not 11.0.10.
If only the install location changed, then that shouldn't matter because I can access them directly.

Another strange thing is that when I start 11.0.10, I get 11.0.9 as the name in the title bar, although the 11.0.9 is not installed anymore.

I just extractet the 64bit RPM version of TVpaint 11.0.10 and that seems to work

Something must be wrong with the 64bit deb package

Good for you !

As Thierry said we support only Debian and RedHat derivatives, and so far we have no report from users having issues using the deb package in the normal way.

Thanks !

As Manjaro is getting more and more popular, it might be worth taking the time to create a specific package.

Actually, you were right : there is an issue with the DEB package. We'll have to rebuild it.

Thanks a lot for your report !
