Zooming and rotating by dragging the stylus?

Post by BruceM »

I've seen YouTube videos of people using TVPaint and zooming in and out by holding a shortcut key down and dragging the stylus left or right across the project window.
Same thing for rotating the project window. Can someone tell me what specifically are the shortcut names on the right side of the shortcuts menu that would allow me to resize and rotate by dragging the stylus across the project window?

Thanks Slowtiger. I'm probably just being dense, but which right side of menu commands do I pair that up with? I've done a lot of changing of the key commands pairings from the original setup, so they're very different from the default settings.

I think these aren't included in that list because they're not key commands (to click) but modifier keys.

Thanks again Slowtiger! Those are working for dragging the image and for rotation. Is there one that will allow me to zoom in and out by dragging the stylus?

alt+ctrl+scroll lets me zoom with the mouse, I don't know how this translates to a stylus.

I've found a way to set it up so that I can press the Alt button while holding down the right click button on the stylus and dragging it left & right. It works, but ideally I'll find a way so that I can just press the keyboard shortcut without having to also press the stylus' right click button. It's not a big deal to have to do it, but I don't need to press the stylus button for rotation or for dragging the project window, so it'd be nice to be able to keep it consistent.

Thanks for your help Slowtiger!

In the Shortcuts Menu you can make Right Mouse/Click Button a hotkey. Its under "Tools".

IMPORTANT: It only seems to work if you press and hold the assigned key FIRST then press ALT. Pressing them simultaneously or ALT first won't work.

I'm running into a roadblock. I want to program the Alt/Option key together with the Right Mouse Button command so that they're both actuated with a single key command. That would allow me to simply hold one key down while dragging the stylus left or right to zoom in and out. The problem I'm running into is that there doesn't appear to be an "Alt/Option key listed anywhere in the Keyboard Shortcuts menu.

From what I've read in other posts, the current architecture of TVPaint does not allow access to the ALT/Option key for reassignment. The Smooth zoom, rotate, and pan via mouse or stylus are also 'hard coded' to the ALT key and are not listed in the shortcuts menu.

You may, however, be able to "override the system-wide use of the Alt key as the menu-focus key" using a 3rd party app like ControllerMate or AutoHotkey. So, I think, to accomplish what you want you'd have to combine Alt/Option + right mouse button to a key of your choice. I suppose this may or may or may not cause you to lose functionality elsewhere. This thread may help you find a solution viewtopic.php?t=10069

This is good information. Kind of crazy that the option key isn't available on the menu for key assignments.
Given all of this, I might be better off just getting used to pressing the right click button on the stylus.

hello everyone

I just can't make the CTRL+ALT+LMB screen rotation shortcut with the Stylus. IS there any setup needed ? Or a specific action to do with the stylus ?

Note :
- ALT+LMB do work for translation (LMB being actually just the stylus touching the screen, right ?)
- CTRL+ALT+LMB did actually works for a few seconds at some point... and then disapeared again

I am on MacOS, japanese keyboard, cintiq pro, with standard Wacom setup and no change to TVPaint shortcut setup.

Any help Will be greatly appreciated !

ALT/Option + R Click will allow zoom in and out with a stylus. You would need to assign a right click to one of your buttons though.

It's a little gem found in this tutorial from a while back: https://youtu.be/8UxV0CTvxlk?t=390

Cheers,
