Re: Python scripting
Once this has been fixed in python we will look closely at it again, 'coz george is getting old. But there are some other scripting languages in the starting blocks, and at least LUA and Ruby are serious competition. Maybe Python 3.0 once released ? I was also going to suggest Ruby! I'm not familia...

Re: hello from a mirage user and now tvpaint pro user!
wow it's been a long long time coming to this. been waiting to jump to tvpaint because mirage has served me so well. to tell the truth i'm still using mirage at this point and am a little hesitant to jump right over for deadline work until i take a few laps around this new environment and hopefully...

Re: rotoscope critique/aesthetics
Yes - "lifeless" was the word I was trying to think of. Much of the Flash animation I have seen appears lifeless. I agree there are good and bad in every mode of animation - but in my experience there is a very low percentage of "life-filled" Flash work out there. I've played wi...

Re: rotoscope critique/aesthetics
Well... the idea behind vector animation like Flash or Anime Studio Pro or ToonBoom is based on traditional key-framed 2D animation -- the difference is that the computer draws the in-betweens instead of the animator (3D CG animation is done this way also). Good vector animation applications will al...

Python scripting
I know TVPaint has a scripting language (George, right), but has anyone considered creating a Python scripting interface for TVPaint? This could even be used, ultimately, to create plugins written in Python (don't know if plugins can be created with George or if they require the SDK). If TVpaint is ...

Re: Suggestion for a Learning Forum
While on the subject, personally I find comments such as "That is very nice work Dicky", or my favorite worst; "Coolieo" completely unhelpful because those are comments with no commentaries. Tell us why you like it; trigger a discussion and we begin to all learn from another per...

Re: What's new in TVP Pro 8.6?
That would be a good feature, I agree. Maybe in version 9.0 (which I suspect won't be out for a while since 8.6 just came out)

Re: rotoscope critique/aesthetics
Thanks for the input. I kind of set myself up for those responses regarding rotoscoping. I use my footage mainly for reference for my drawing but I understand the 'mass - production ' and 'fake as flowers' thought. Most of my work ends up having my personal expression in it. However, I truly agree ...

Re: rotoscope critique/aesthetics
There are always exceptions (except none for rotoscoping) in Flash animation http://www.bozzetto.com/flashfilms2.htm Bruno Bozzetto animated in Flash style long before computer animation existed so he fell right into the best spirit of Flash. Not everything is equally charming and clever but you'll...

Re: rotoscope critique/aesthetics
Rotoscoping is pretend art, pure and simple. Rotoscope is mass production. I feel the same way about most Flash animation... so much bad animation out on the Internet and about 99% of it is done in Flash. I have gained a new appreciation of stop-motion animation also -- I have always liked it, but ...

Re: how to export to DVD from TVP
I second the notion for Vegas. If you don't want to shell out the money for the full Vegas package (over $600 USD), you can get Vegas Movie Studio or Vegas Platinum for a bit less and still get the DVD authoring tools.

Is the CreationPack available as a download? I know I can get the demo version, but it's only making me hunger for more and I want it NOW!

Re: rotoscope critique/aesthetics
Rotoscoping... the neverending controversy. I think, like all animation techniques, it has its place and can be used effectively. The modern equivalent to rotoscoping is 'motion capture', which also has its place in in visual effects. Ralph Bakshi, who was heavily criticized for his use of rotoscopi...
